GASTAMINE.PLUS builds upon the achievements of the original GASTAMINE project to expand its technological and industrial impact. The initiative focuses on developing an ATEX-certified prototype of its advanced aerial monitoring system, designed specifically for underground environments to ensure the safety in complex environments (ATEX zones 1 and 2).

This next-generation system integrates enhanced hardware and electronics, ensuring compliance with ATEX safety standards. It also introduces two major innovations:

• An Android-based command and control app, enabling operators to manage missions and monitor sensor data in real time—even in GPS-denied or connectivity-limited areas.
• An embedded AI assistant that interprets environmental data, detects hazards and issues automatic safety alerts to support fast and informed decisions.

By creating both standard and ATEX-certified versions of the system, GASTAMINE PLUS opens the door to new industrial markets—from all types of underground mines and energy infrastructures to tunnel construction. The expected benefits include improved worker safety, reduced inspection times and costs and increased operational efficiency.

With a strong, experienced consortium and a clear roadmap toward full certification, GASTAMINE PLUS reinforces Europe’s leadership in smart and safe mining technologies—paving the way for a safer and more sustainable underground industry.
