Underground mines and tunnels have advanced monitoring systems to detect and control the presence of gases and dust, contributing to a high-level safety environment for workers. In addition, modern ventilation systems ensure adequate oxygen levels, helping to carry out operations under strict safety protocols.

Blasting operations in the mining industry are carried out under strict safety protocols and using specialised technology that allows to maintain the stability of the facilities.

GASTAMINE is a project supported by EIT Raw Materials, and co-funded by the European Union, that aims to develop and commercialize gas monitoring equipment to contribute to high-level safety standards in confined and GPS-denied environments. GASTAMINE will develop a customized Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to automate the measurement of multiple concentrations of gases (CO₂, CO, O₂, NOx, CH₄, H₂S, SO₂).
